This movie is the perfect compliment to Boogie Nights. In Hard Eight you have people who have given up hope and but keep grinding it out, whereas in Boogie Nights the characters are foolish dreamers.
i like p d L too. except for those color spectrum transition shots that made no sense
Magnolia had many many links all the way to the credits of what kids know. its produced by earl partridge. its not a mess its so complex that she missed it who ever she was. there are too many connections to name
JFC... PTA was 25 when he made this movie.
🥰 SALLY ❤
She gets to be a film critic and I'm stuck working in a call centre. If that isn't a display of the absurdity of life I don't know what it.
I was undecided if I wanted to watch this movie on Pluto, and after hearing this review I decided not to. the thought of watching this idiot dancing in the supermarket was unbearable.
these fucking comments are incredible
Gene Siskel: It left me cold Roger Ebert: What about this character? Gene: Yea, that one was good. But still... Roger: How about this? Gene: Well yea, obviously that was good Roger: and this? Gene: Of course that was great it was done well. Mixed review for me.
I don't see Vlad being an upgrade for this lineup, he is another swing and miss guy, easily pitched to, not all that athletic and certainly not a great defensively. The Yankees need a great situational hitter, able to hit 20 or so HRs, 30+ doubles, drive in 80-100 RBIs, bat .275 - .290, with .350+ OBP, and be ATHLETIC.
Joyce is an idiot. Roger gets it.
2:02 Gene says that their fate seemed arbitrary. And therefore he felt there was no point or theme to the film. One of the themes of the film is that the most intoxicating drug is Fame. But like any drug it wears off eventually and you have to go back to reality. That's why their fates seemed arbitrary.
The ending was spectacular!!!
It's a classic
She also like the Pokémon movie
When daniel walks into the office the guy looks normal and after a few minutes in daniels company he is sweating profusely and daniel is not i wonder is it because hes standing so close to the devil??
Who is she and has she come out of hiding yet?
I kinda agree with siskel on this one
One of the best films I’ve ever seen…time has proven her wrong lol
Siskel sucked
I don’t know what Ebert meant by the mob. The mob isn’t in the movie. Was his perhaps thinking about the drug deal?
Oh, Gene. Not every movie has to have a big, important message, and even something we already knew can still be worth re-stating.
These two…. OMG
Norm macdonalds guy?? In my favourite movie???
This didn't age well...for her. I hope she looks back at this with embarrassment.
It's not supposed to have any deep meaning. It's a good movie to watch to deter oneself from falling down a rabbit hole of drugs. Plus is a DOCUMENTARY based on porn actor John Holmes.
Boogie Nights rocked! Hilarious without even trying.A fun flick. I felt bad for Eddie at first but at the end he did it to himself.
I just watched this movie the other day for the first time and I have just one thing to say: Joyce is absolutely right.
3:07, Ebert should have replied, " So You do know about This World and took it personal against the Film 🎥 itself then Gene... As You graciously said, We are Film Critics FIRST, not Personal Emotions Critics."
definitely seems like a movie Jerry Lewis would have dreamed to do
1:34 when Al is being thick in front of you
I miss these two. When they argued and clashed with different opinions about some particular points but both like the movie as whole, it made it that much more interesting to watch it myself. Boogie Nights by far one of the top ten movies of the 90's. Just look at the cast with Burt Reynolds best performance of his career and for others it was a their big break out film. That's saying something considering the decade as a whole had so many great movies.
I just watched this review, very happy I have no idea who the woman is Love Magnolia
I actually hated this movie the first time I saw it. Then watched it again like five years later and absolutely LOVED it. It's a masterpiece
I fucking love magnolia. It’s a little bloated and imperfect but I wouldn’t change a thing.
What a moron. Where is she now-a-days?
I wonder what Siskel would have thought of Magnolia. I’ll bet his opinion would have been better than hers. I personally loved Magnolia!
This is exactly why women shouldn't be allowed to watch movies.
Daniel Plainview? The oil man?
She is an idiot!
This is ridiculous, missing the point of the movie and the cleverness of the way it's done... Some movies does not deserve their audience
Es latina? o solo tiene o coincide que tiene muy buen sentido del humor y español fluido
0:45 waltz hi sally,your welcome
I thought the beginning was interesting and then i watched the rest. Amazing movie.
I never did like Siskel. I hate people who interrupt.
Jesus, did Siskel like ANYTHING?
Alfred Molina deserved an oscar.
Despite of heath’s tragic before the release💔, heaths idea in commited wanted Batman too hit him as real, when started with shoving head on the table was great appearnce plot gag! Lol!😂 then slamming his palm but then like didn’t even make a peep is like numb and doesn’t feel pain?!🤷🏻♂️🤣
Daniel Plainview? The oil tycoon? No. Haha. Sorry. Nice try.
A Great Small Film!
